Jean Karotkin became a working photographer after surviving her own experience with breast cancer. Connecting with others, she began using a medium-format camera to photograph survivors around the country. Based on her affirmative vision for and about women, she published Body & Soul: The Courage and Beauty of Breast Cancer Survivors (2004). Her photography was published nationally, including O Magazine and Rosie Magazine (2001) and she appeared on the NBC Today Show with Ann Curry. Her images for Rosie Magazine won them The Society of Publication Designers Award in 2002.Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Santa Fe as well as at the Houston Center for Photography. Galveston Arts Center (Galveston, TX) presented a solo exhibition of Mirrors during FotoFest 2008, the International Festival of Photography. Jean Karotkin operates a commercial portrait photography business in Dallas, Texas and travels extensively to serve her clients.
